How we define success

At a high level, we define success for people managers as driving outstanding outcomes by effectively organizing and directing your team, and by bringing out the best in each of your reports.

More specifically, we’ve identified four key capabilities that we expect people managers at Guild to possess.

Four capabilities of a people manager

  • Set direction & allocate resources

Direct your team resources toward their highest and best use in service of relevant business outcomes.

    • Understand Guild’s business and strategy to align their team’s work with company goals.

    • Judiciously allocate their team’s resources to their best and highest use.

    • Provide context to help their team align their work with business goals (while filtering unnecessary noise).

  • Drive effective execution

Hold yourself and your team accountable to meeting or exceeding relevant outcomes.

    • Set clear performance standards so each team member knows what success looks like.

    • Monitor progress and identify and resolve barriers that impede their team’s work.

    • Drive continuous improvement and learning by analyzing and debriefing successes and failures.

    • Provide real-time coaching and corrective feedback to keep work on track.

    • Collaborate with peers to drive clarity, manage dependencies, share information, and resolve conflicts.

  • Develop talent & impactful work

Cultivate the strengths and growth areas of each team member so they can do the best work of their careers.

    • Deliver frequent and actionable feedback to each team member.

    • Monitor strengths and growth areas to support skill and capability development.

    • When stretch opportunities become available, consider each team member when assigning responsibilities — ensuring both skill alignment and equitable access to opportunities.

  • Foster inclusive & engaging environments

Create an inclusive team environment where Guilders can grow, enabling us to attract, retain, and engage top talent.

    • Create a psychologically safe environment, including by soliciting and considering all team members’ feedback and ideas.

    • Encourage sustainable work practices such that team members can durably drive business and impact outcomes.

    • Foster belonging by recognizing and celebrating team members’ unique contributions.

    • Demonstrate care for each member of their team, supporting strong and trusting relationships.
